Civil Guard warning to all of Spain: Beware of this attempted online theft.

Since the internet became a part of our daily lives, phishing has become one of the most common forms of personal data theft . It's a cybercrime technique that involves tricking someone into revealing confidential information such as passwords, banking details, or usernames.

Attackers typically contact users via email, fraudulent websites, or text messages . To trick the victim into providing personal information, they pose as trusted entities, close friends, or well-known companies, instilling alarm or promising rewards. The Civil Guard has become aware of this and issued a warning to Spaniards with the aim of reducing the number of people who fall into this trap.

New phishing campaigns

The Civil Guard has detected several campaigns impersonating well-known brands to steal user data, tricking them into believing they've been selected to win a prize or gift that doesn't actually exist . To receive this reward, message recipients must complete a survey in which they provide personal information.

Furthermore, after completing the survey, victims are required to make a small payment to cover shipping costs , creating the false impression that they have taken advantage of an irresistible opportunity. In the full statement from the National Cybersecurity Institute, authorities explain that these types of fraudulent emails often include phrases such as "limited time" or "few units left."

How to detect a robbery attempt

To avoid falling for phishing attempts, it's important to carefully review any suspicious messages, especially if they promise gifts or generate a sense of alarm. If you're suspicious of any communication, it's best to avoid interacting with the message, mark it as spam , or delete it .

If you have accessed the link, the National Cybersecurity Institute recommends contacting your bank immediately, saving evidence of the scam, filing a report, and frequently checking your banking transactions and any potential disclosure of your private information.
