Google CEO Sundar Pichai believes the risk of AI destroying humanity is "really very high."

Artificial intelligence threatened to take our jobs when ChatGPT entered our lives in late 2022. Since then, several experts have suggested that professions will disappear at the hands of this technology , while some tech entrepreneurs, such as Elon Musk, believe there is a 20% chance that AI will "wipe out humanity" . But how true are these beliefs?

At first glance, these ideas may seem a bit far-fetched, but surprisingly, an AI security expert warns that "there is a 99.9% chance" that the end of humanity will come because of artificial intelligence. However, one of the founders of ChatGPT is working on a secure and powerful superintelligence that could prevent "human extinction." However, a recent reflection by Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, reopens the debate about the future of humanity .

In an interview with renowned computer scientist Lex Fridman, Pichai believes that the "risk of artificial intelligence destroying human civilization is high," but nevertheless expresses some admiration for humankind's ability to adapt to the advances of AI, considering the constant advances in this technology "a little disturbing."

On the other hand, Pichai lays out a series of optimistic arguments to inspire confidence in the future of humanity . In his view, artificial intelligence has the potential to "unleash" human creativity "in ways that haven't been seen before," considering that he envisions a future in which this technology will allow tens, even hundreds of millions of people, to create and share content in more meaningful and transformative ways.

Furthermore, he emphasizes that AI could become a key tool in ensuring the continuity of life on Earth as we know it: "There is a real possibility that AI will be the factor that saves us, that protects human civilizations from the multiple threats we face."
