The best features of iOS 26 will only be available on some iPhones: Find out if your phone is on the list.
Apple officially launched iOS 26 at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2025 (WWDC). The software maintains the same aesthetics as previous versions of the operating system, but offers a more intuitive experience and a new design thanks to the new translucent Liquid Glass material that reflects and refracts everything around it to give content prominence.
The facelift will be available as a free download starting this fall for iPhone 11 models and later , but those with an iPhone 13 or iPhone 15 will be unable to enjoy certain features.
The reason is that several of the new update's features require newer iPhone models and Apple AI. But which phones will get the best features? 9to5Mac reveals that the iPhone 15 Pro and later models feature more powerful chips to run the following AI tools:
- Visual intelligence with screenshots : This new feature allows you to analyze the content of the screenshot.
- Live Translation in Messages, FaceTime, and Phone : Live translation works within the aforementioned apps, so language barriers aren't an issue because conversations and messages are automatically translated.
- AI-powered Shortcuts : Apple's Shortcuts app has gained new actions in iOS 26 that can leverage existing AI features.
- Reminders, Suggestions, and Organization : In iOS 26, Apple Intelligence powers suggestions and organization to help you create new tasks or automatically categorize a to-do list.
- Apple Wallet Order Tracking : Apple leverages AI to extract order tracking information from emails in your inbox.
- New Image Playground and Genmoji improvements : Users can create Genmojis by combining two existing emoticons or by typing a description. Image Playground integrates ChatGPT's image generation capabilities.
- Creating Message Backgrounds and Poll Suggestions : Stakeholders can create polls in Messages and Custom Backgrounds.
All of the above features are available on iPhone 15 Pro and later models, however, there is one feature that will be available on iPhone 12 and later :
- Lock Screen 3D Effect : The time dynamically adapts to the photo and surroundings, keeping your subject in view. When you move your iPhone, the image comes to life with a new 3D effect.
