Apertura 2025: The eight teams that qualified for the round of 16 in Group A. When do they start?

Today saw several matches played in the final round of the group stage of the 2025 Apertura . The results were as follows: Racing 1 – 0 Newell's ; Argentinos Juniors 4 – 0 Estudiantes; Independiente Rivadavia 3 – 2 Defensa y Justicia; and Banfield 3 – 1 Central Córdoba .

While there are still several matches remaining, the eight teams that qualify for the round of 16 in Group A have already been determined: Argentinos Juniors, Boca Juniors, Racing Club, Huracán, Independiente Rivadavia, Tigre, Barracas, and Estudiantes. For now, they are in that order . However, results from the rest of the round could affect the standings. The round of 16 will begin on the weekend of Friday, May 9 .

For Matchday 16, Boca Juniors will face Tigre on Sunday the 4th, starting at 6:00 PM in Victoria . In their last match, the Club de la Ribera lost to River Plate 2-1 at the Más Monumental. Meanwhile, El Matador is coming off a 0-0 draw with Estudiantes in La Plata.

As previously reported, Argentinos Juniors defeated Estudiantes and overtook Boca Juniors in the standings. They currently have 33 points . Xeneize, meanwhile, has 32 points from ten wins, two draws, and three losses.

So if Boca wants to advance to the playoffs as the leader, they must beat Tigre on the final day . A draw wouldn't count due to the goal difference with Argentinos Juniors.

For the match against Tigre, Mariano Herrón is expected to field the following lineup: Agustín Marchesín; Lucas Blondel; Lautaro Di Lollo; Marcos Rojo; Lautaro Blanco; Tomás Belmonte; Milton Delgado; Kevin Zenón; Alan Velasco; Edinson Cavani; and Milton Giménez . A 4-4-2 formation.

If Boca Juniors ultimately fail to overcome El Matador and advance to the playoffs in second place, there's a chance they'll face River Plate before the final. If El Millonario finishes third in Group B, a Superclásico could occur in the quarterfinals at La Bombonera .
