Barça awaits a slip-up from Real Madrid to secure its sixth consecutive La Liga title

Barça awaits a slip-up from Real Madrid to secure its sixth consecutive La Liga title

The dream of another treble could begin to become a reality this Sunday at the Johan Cruyff Stadium (5:30 p.m.). Barça , who lead the Liga F1 by four points, could claim the title if they do their homework against Deportivo de la Coruña, while Real Madrid , their closest rivals, can hold on to a draw at Granada (4 p.m.).

Having recently qualified for the Champions League final on May 24 in Lisbon , their fifth consecutive one after beating Chelsea in the semi-finals, and also for the Copa de la Reina final on June 7, the Blaugrana can add another title to an already hegemonic and glorious era against the Galician team.

It would be the eighteenth title since 2020 and the tenth La Liga title for the club.

If they win the title today, or in the next two rounds of Liga F, Barça, who already lifted the Spanish Super Cup this season, would claim their sixth consecutive La Liga title and the club's tenth overall. Six years of dominance have seen them win three Champions League titles and four Copa del Rey titles, among other titles, with a team led by players like Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmatí, and others.

"We want to do well, as we have been doing. We're training well, with the whole team healthy; putting in a good performance will bring us closer to winning, which is what we want," explained coach Pere Romeu, close to joining his first season with a historic team that won every title last season under Jonatan Giráldez.

The script will be predictable in almost every match played at the Johan Cruyff Stadium: Barça will control the game against a defensive opponent, even more so considering that Deportivo is at the bottom of the table and needs points to secure survival as quickly as possible.

Romeu predicted they will face "an opponent who comes to defend and close down spaces inside," with "a five-man defense, four midfielders, and a forward." "It's been a long time since we played against them," Romeu added, referring to the Galicians, who were the Blaugrana's opponents in the first matchday of the season, which ended with a resounding 3-0 victory for the Catalans on September 8.

Barça, qualified for the Champions League and Copa del Rey finals, can begin to make another treble a reality.

If Real Madrid doesn't slip up against Granada, Barça would have to rely on themselves to secure the title next matchday away to Betis , provided they get all three points against Deportivo. The final matchday would again be at the Johan Cruyff Stadium against Athletic Bilbao . With only two defeats this season in La Liga, everything points to Barça women's team sooner rather than later experiencing another historic day in La Liga, the umpteenth for a team without equal. It would be the eighteenth trophy since 2020, and there's no sign it will be the last.
