MEXICO CITY (apro).- Former Jalisco governor Enrique Alfaro announced on Instagram that he completed a Master's degree in Football Management at the Real Madrid University School in Spain.

“Three years ago, I decided that at the end of my term, I would leave politics to dedicate myself to my other passion: football,” he shared, along with photos of himself posing at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium with his wife at the graduation ceremony led by Florentino Pérez, Spanish businessman and club president, and Adriano Galliani, Italian senator, former director of AC Milan, and godfather of the class.

"Today I took a very important step for myself on this new path. I completed my Master's in Football Management at the University of the most important club in the world: Real Madrid (after Chivas, of course)," the former leader of the Citizens' Movement party posted.

The former governor also spoke about his feelings during the ceremony. "I remembered the entire process I've gone through to get here and how difficult it is to take on a new life challenge at 51, after having achieved everything you set out to do professionally."

He also thanked his family for their support. “The journey has been worth it. Thanks to my grandmother and my daughters for joining me on this adventure. Thank God for allowing me to continue pursuing my dreams. I've learned a lot about soccer and I've learned a lot about life.”

Alfaro explained that he will complete his coaching course in two months, after two and a half years of study at the Argentine Football Coaches Association (ATFA). "After that, we'll see what happens next," he concluded.

In the post, Instagram users responded with criticism of the former president. "He should be ashamed of himself," "How easy it is to leave the crisis of the disappeared behind," and "Let's see when you'll return to testify about the extermination camps" are some of the comments that can be read.

Some users directly mentioned the findings in Teuchitlán, where on March 5, 2025, groups searching for missing persons found backpacks, 200 pairs of shoes, and 400 items of clothing belonging to men and women presumed missing, as well as charred human remains.

According to the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, the Rancho Izaguirre property served as a training camp for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The majority of the young people were recruited through false job offers.

Alfaro, who served as governor of Jalisco from December 6, 2018, to December 5, 2024, was still in office when the use of the land where Rancho Izaguirre was located by criminal groups was first discovered on September 19, 2024.

On that date, the National Guard detected an organized crime group encampment located in La Estanzuela, a town in the municipality of Teuchitlán. There, officers arrested 10 people, freed two kidnapped men, and found the body of one person.

Five months later, activists located the same site, the findings that shocked the country. On March 6, Jalisco prosecutor Salvador González de los Santos stated that during the authorities' first raid, they had not found the evidence discovered by the group because "it's a fairly large ranch," Proceso reported.

Later, on March 9, the local Prosecutor's Office stated in a statement that the site "had been secured" since September 2024, but this version contradicts what was discovered by the searchers, "who found the property without seals or chains," Proceso reported.

According to the Center for Justice, Peace, and Development (Cepad), Jalisco has ranked first in the nation for missing persons since 2019. Six out of 10 cases were recorded during Enrique Alfaro's administration.

“Alfaro, I really respected and admired you. Why didn't you ever speak out about the Izaguirre ranch?” one user posted on the former governor's Instagram post, regarding his course to become a soccer coach. “It's nice to see my taxes working. By the way, I wonder when you'll come back to clean up the mess you left behind,” another commented.
