In one of the quarterfinal matches of the women's field hockey Apertura tournament quarterfinal playoff, Banco Mendoza turned around a tough match against UN San Juan, winning 3-1. They now face Los Tordos in one of the semifinals, which will be played this Sunday. The schedule for the match has yet to be determined.
In the first quarter, Las Patitas de San Juan were slightly ahead of Las Tricolores de Chacras. The Universitarias took advantage of the few opportunities they had in front of the bankers' goal. Julieta Luna opened the scoring after converting the first penalty corner of the match into a stunning goal.
During the second half, the back-and-forth game was evenly matched, but at times the match became tight. There were a couple of penalty opportunities for each of the opposing teams. The substitute goalkeeper fended off the injury well around the opening five minutes, and then Camila Peroni tied the score (1-1) with 30 seconds left on a penalty for "CPBM."
In the third half, the UN de San Juan team had two corners in their favor but failed to capitalize on them, and that would ultimately weigh heavily on the Albiturquesa team, especially because of what would happen in the final minutes of the match.
In the final quarter, UNSJ had the game under control, and when it looked like it would go to a penalty shootout, Banco Mendoza found a way past their opponents and turned around a game they had been facing in the process in three minutes. First, Jimena Vera scored the 2-1 through a short kick, and then in a "great play," where the ball was touched by Paz Pringles, Delfina Bontorno, and "Tutti" Fernández Ruzo, who left the ball for Carolina Baclini, who put the "cherry" on the cake for the Bank's performance by converting the final 3-1. A goal was another matter.
