Inter Miami and Al Ahly draw 0-0 in the 2025 Club World Cup opener

The 2025 Club World Cup kicked off Saturday in Miami with a scoreless draw between Inter Miami and Egypt's Al Ahly in a Group A match at Hard Rock Stadium .

Inter Miami looked more confident, and in the 57th minute, Messi unleashed a left-footed shot from outside the box that was saved by El Shenawy . Shortly after, a free kick taken by the Argentine caused confusion when it hit the side netting, prompting some fans to mistakenly celebrate a supposed goal.

The game continued to be played in midfield, with few opportunities in the penalty areas. Messi appeared again near the end of the match with a long-range shot that forced El Shenawy to deflect; the ball ended up hitting the crossbar before going out of bounds.
