La Fiel bids farewell to Martín Nervo

In a moving scene, dozens of Atlas fans gathered Tuesday night outside a hotel in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area to bid farewell to one of the great figures of the red-and-black two-time championship: Martín Nervo .

Amid chants, cheers, and shouts of "Nervo isn't leaving!" and some of "Out with the board!", the fans demonstrated their discontent with the departure of the Argentine defender , whom they consider an idol and a symbol of the team's rebirth.

The emotional farewell came despite the fact that the decision to leave didn't come from him, but rather from the club's sports council, who decided to terminate his contract early, which was due to expire in six months. Furthermore, the coaching staff headed by Gonzalo Pineda no longer had him in their plans .

Visibly moved and in tears, Nervo addressed those present:

“It's a wonderful thing to lift trophies; it's the most anticipated thing for a footballer and for the fans, but your affection is priceless. Nothing can buy that. No trophies or titles are worth anything, because I'll always carry that in my heart. Atlas and Martín Nervo will be a lifelong love, and no one will ever change that.”

The Argentine center-back also expressed his deep gratitude for the displays of affection : "I never imagined what you've done for me... there's one more red-and-black family here, because I'll be cheering from somewhere else and doing my best to help the club do well."

Ahead of the 2025 Apertura, Atlas has confirmed four reinforcements, Robert Pier , Gustavo Ferraréis , Jorge Rodríguez and César Ramos, and will not make any more additions, thus closing a cycle with a farewell that left its mark on the hearts of the red and black team.
