Platense, the reigning Argentine soccer champion, has already agreed to a new coach.

The reigning Argentine soccer champion now has a new coach: Cristian González will be the manager of Platense , following the negotiations initiated by the Calamar management, led by president Sebastián Ordóñez . El Kily, who began his career at Rosario Central, recently coached Unión de Santa Fe until last April.
Although he left Tate before the end of his contract due to poor results, the Apertura winners considered him instead of the Favio Orsi-Sergio Gómez duo , who surprisingly resigned less than two weeks after beating Huracán in the final in Santiago del Estero.
The agreement is verbally finalized, pending the signing of the contracts. The Vicente López club intends to present the coach next Tuesday. The contract runs until December 2026, with the Copa Libertadores as a major objective. Platense will kick off that tournament in the group stage.
The other coach targeted by the management was Martín Palermo, who led the team to the 2023 final, losing to Rosario Central.

Kily comes from managing Unión, where he left after a long spell that ended last April. Since his arrival in mid-2023, he has played 78 matches there, earning 25 wins, 26 draws, and 27 losses. He saved the team from relegation in his first year at the helm of the Santa Fe club and qualified them for the Copa Sudamericana in 2024. Then, in 2025, the spell ended, with the team virtually out of the continental tournament (elimination was achieved under Madelón).
One of the issues Kily will have to address is the transfer market: Ignacio Vázquez, Juan Saborido, Vicente Taborda, and Tobías Cervera are the players who could leave the club.
