Professional League: Boca, rebuked by its fans, beat Lanús on penalties and is in the quarterfinals.

A tense night at La Bombonera, with insults towards players and managers , Boca was able to eliminate Lanús on penalties and qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2025 Apertura Tournament. Agustín Marchesin saved the first of the shootout and Milton Giménez scored the last.

La Bombonera played its game: there were whistles for Alan Velasco, Marcos Rojo and Tomás Belmonte , chants of all kinds against the team and the sound of 'the commission, the commission, go to hell... what the hell!'

Boca started the match better, with Alan Velasco on the left and sometimes linking up with Carlos Palacios, but they were unable to generate any major dangerous plays against a Lanús side that had its first chance on goal from a cross that Eduardo Salvio anticipated at the near post.

The fans of the team from the riverbank were quick to show their impatience and after 25 minutes the chants of 'move, Xeneize, move' came down from the stands at La Bombonera.

In the 34th minute, Tomás Belmonte missed a great opportunity to give Mariano Herrón's team the lead with a header , and two minutes later , Velasco squandered a good counterattack: with two teammates free, he gave the ball to the visiting team's only defender.

In the final play of the first half, Agustín Marchesín excelled by sending Ramiro Carrera's shot from the edge of the box to the corner.

In the 60th minute, Herrón made a move on the bench, and, as he had practiced all week, Velasco, who had been having a poor game, was whistled off to allow Milton Giménez to come on. Exequiel Zeballos then replaced Kevin Zenón.

Lanús gave a warning with a cross shot from Salvio that went close and the 1-0 was lost with a header from Carrera alone , which went close to Marchesín's left post.

In a couple of frantic minutes, Losada saved Grana from a shot by Blondel and another by Zeballos. Pellegrino's men responded with Marcelino Moreno, but Marcos Rojo got in between the ball and the goal. Everything will be decided on penalties.

In the penalty shootout, Boca didn't miss a beat . Rojo, Zeballos, Alarcón, and Giménez converted their shots, while Marchesín blocked Canelo's shot and Aquino sent his over the bar. Xeneize won 4-2 and qualified for the quarterfinals.
