Monterrey , for its part, only managed three shots throughout the entire match, and prioritized defensive order to withstand the South American onslaught.

The match was intense and back-and-forth at key moments, with more than 57,000 fans in the stands, most of them cheering on the millionaires.

The tension remained until the end, as a defeat would have jeopardized the Mexican team's aspirations.

With this result, River Plate reached 4 points in Group E, equal to Inter Milan, but with a better goal difference . Rayados stayed on 2 points after also drawing in their debut against the Italian team.

The group will be decided on the final day, when Monterrey faces Urawa Red Diamonds , who must win and hope for a favorable combination of results.

The draw keeps the hopes of Domenec Torrent's team alive, who remain unbeaten but have also failed to score in the tournament.

River Plate , meanwhile, has one foot in the next round, but will have to confirm their qualification in their final match. The Club World Cup remains in full swing.
