River's 1-on-1 draw at the Club World Cup: a report with many more postponed matches than approved matches

River Plate left Seattle, mired in anger and disappointment for failing to advance past the group stage of the Club World Cup. During the competition, there were a few players who stood out, others who were expected to do better, and some who didn't measure up.
Here, the performance of Marcelo Gallardo's team's players is analyzed using Clarín's report card, based on the average scores in their matches .
As usual, the goalkeeper was once again up to the task. He made one crucial save per game, and against Inter against Lautar Martínez, no less. In that match, he also made a great save against Mkhitaryan.
He didn't have the rhythm to play, and it showed. He didn't get down to the ground like usual and ended the World Cup with a red card. At the same time, against Monterrey, he misplayed a pass that led to a foul by Kevin Castaño to prevent a counterattack and a red card for the Colombian.
El Chino performed better than how he had finished the local tournament and the first phase of the Copa Libertadores, but he ended up being marked by errors that proved costly: the missed goal against the Mexicans under the goal that could have meant qualification and his expulsion against Inter after poor control and the foul on Mkhitaryan.
The defender didn't live up to his stature. He started against Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan and struggled with Matsuo, the Japanese team's striker, losing pace more than once. And he was made to pay for Bastoni's goal against Inter.
The Chilean returned from injury for the two toughest matches of the group and was the best in the back line, with good crosses, although he continued to be long inside the box with Espósito before Inter's 1-0 lead.
River Plate's best player at the World Cup because he understood how to play the game. He put his experience to good use. Marking and gritted teeth. Projecting and key crosses. He provided two assists against Urawa and also had outstanding matches with Rayados and Inter. Aside from the late-match battle against Dumfries, he had a great performance.
Nacho had been a starter with some good performances this semester, but he couldn't continue his performance in the World Cup. After a weak opening 45 minutes with Urawa, in which he was inaccurate, he lost his place in the team. Those opening 45 minutes and his substitutions against Rayados and Inter didn't provide any solutions for River.
He went from strength to strength with Urawa and from strength to strength with Rayados de Monterrey. He performed well, but two bookings in both matches kept him out of the decisive match against Inter.
He failed to connect the midfield play with the forwards beyond his trademark ball-handling skills. He had his ups and downs and was sent off for the Inter match.
More was expected of him. He had started well with Urawa, initiating the play for the first goal, but he didn't have a good performance with the Japanese. He picked up his form later against Rayados, and with Inter, in his last game with the red stripe, he was weak.
He played one and five more minutes of the second half with Urawa. He scored the second goal and was injured in the attack. A severe sprain of the internal ligament in his left ankle kept him out of the World Cup, and River Plate regretted it.
He was a key player against Urawa, including a header, and had some of the highest points against Rayados. But with Inter, he had a lackluster performance and couldn't score despite almost single-handedly heading the ball into Sommer's hands.
His goal in the opening match against Urawa Red Diamonds was his best performance. That got him into the starting lineup for the other two matches, adding to the absences he had. But when he needed to appear, he didn't. Poor performances against Monterrey and Inter, and Gallardo left him out in both matches.
Another player who earned a starting spot after coming off the bench for Urawa. While he didn't make much of an impact against the Japanese team beyond his sacrifice, he played more in attacking positions against Rayados and actually had chances to score, but lacked accuracy. His performances weren't strong.
One of the team's weakest players. Despite his eagerness to come on against Urawa, he had two chances against Monterrey and lost the duels with Esteban Andrada, and barely touched it against Inter.
His brief spells with Urawa and Rayados marked his return after more than three months away, but he didn't provide any offensive solutions for River. Against the Japanese, he finished a goal-scoring opportunity quickly and high.
He did what he could after such a long period of absence against Inter, a match in which he was the central midfielder due to Enzo Pérez's suspension.
Another player who had a tough time in the middle against the Nerazzurri, handling it at times by putting his foot in. But he collapsed physically, and when Inter's midfielders started to pass him, Gallardo brought him out.
The few minutes he played didn't offer anything different for River Plate. He didn't contribute much beyond a cross to Colidio against Inter.
The kid, who had only played a handful of minutes in the Primera, had to put up with it at Inter. Gallardo brought him on in the second half when Kranevitter was exhausted, and while he struggled initially, he made a couple of good saves afterward.
