Saraperos wins a rainy duel against El Águila and takes the lead in the series.

On a rainy night, the Saraperos de Saltillo achieved an important 10-7 victory over El Águila de Veracruz in the first game of the series played at Francisco I. Madero Stadium. The game began late due to a storm, officially kicking off at 8:20 p.m.

Hometown starter Manny Barreda pitched a scoreless first inning, while the Nave Verde offense responded immediately. In the bottom of the first inning, a Renato Núñez single brought Fabricio Macías home, and Bobby Bradley drove in the second run to put Saltillo ahead 2-0.

Veracruz closed the gap in the top of the third inning with a solo home run by Fabián Pertuz, but the Saraperos responded immediately. JP Martínez homered in the bottom of the same inning, and Missael Rivera added another run to make the score 4-1.

$!Manny Barreda started for Saraperos and contained Veracruz's offense in the first innings.

Saltillo's offense exploded in the fourth inning. Brandon Villarreal singled in Julián León , and minutes later, Missael Rivera hit a grand slam that drove in Villarreal, Macías, and Núñez , extending the lead to 9-1. With that blast, Rivera reached 40 RBIs of the season.

The Eagles tried to respond in the top of the fifth. Herlis Rodríguez drove in a run with a single and then crossed the plate alongside Socrates Brito , cutting the lead to 9-5. However, Rivera responded again in the bottom of the sixth with his second home run of the game, adding another run for the home team.

Veracruz continued fighting and scored a run in the seventh inning and another in the eighth, the latter scored by Ronald Guzmán , but closer Jake Sánchez took charge of preserving the lead to secure the Saltillo victory.

Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., weather permitting.
