Paris. Iga Swiatek always plays very well against Emma Raducanu. And at the French Open too, of course.

So it made sense that the last meeting between the two Grand Slam champions ended with a 6-1, 6-2 victory for the former.

I felt good on the court, so I was able to do what I planned , said Swiatek, who improved to 5-0 against Raducanu and extended her clay-court winning streak to 23 matches.

Truth be told, he didn't have to exert himself too much during this encounter, which lasted only one hour and 19 minutes.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka also advanced, defeating Swiss Jil Teichmann 6-3, 6-1. She will next face Serbian Olga Danilovic.

In the men's draw, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz defeated Fabian Marozsan 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the second round, while Casper Ruud was eliminated.

It was a great match, I started pretty well and was feeling confident , said Alcaraz, who reached 20 wins at the French Open.

Holger Rune also advanced to the second round, defeating Emilio Nava 6-3, 6-7, 6-3. Two-time Grand Slam finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas was eliminated in the second round, losing 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 to Matteo Gigante.

Mexicans remain in the running

Tricolor Giuliana Olmos and Hao Ching Chan debuted with a victory in the doubles event by defeating the Kessler/Lamens duo 6-3, 5-7 and 7-6.

In the men's category, Miguel Ángel Sánchez-Varela and his partner Sriram Balaji defeated the pair of Camilo Carabelli and Bu Yunchaokete 6-2, 6-1.

With their victories, the tennis players achieved that for the first time in the open era, Mexican tennis has four players in the second round of the Paris doubles event (Renata Zarazúa, Santiago González, Miguel Sánchez-Varela and Giuliana Olmos).

In a bout held at the Butai Arena, the Mexican took the belt that was vacant after Anthony Cacace did not attend a mandatory defense following his victory over Joe Cordina in May 2024. The Sinaloan dominated all 12 rounds and achieved his first victory by this means. He came out with his fist raised with scores of 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111. Photo @bxstrs
