With a landslide! Cruz Azul wins its seventh Concachampions title in the CU and ties América for the most wins.

Cruz Azul lifted their seventh Concacaf Champions Cup title after defeating Vancouver Whitecaps 5-0 in the final at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, ending an 11-year international title drought. Vicente Sánchez's team won the match with authority, delivering a resounding performance against a Canadian side that never managed to react.
The goals in the final were scored by Ángel Sepúlveda , who scored twice, along with Nacho Rivero, Lorenzo Faravelli, and Mateusz Bogusz. With this result, Cruz Azul not only regained prominence on the international stage, but also tied Club América as the team with the most titles in the tournament's history, both with seven.
La Máquina found the Ciudad Universitaria stadium a propitious setting to close out this successful chapter. After ending its relationship with Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes , the club opted to play its home games at CU . Despite being a borrowed venue, it managed to reverse a long streak without a championship. The last time a team celebrated a title at that stadium was in 2011, when the Pumas won that year's Clausura .

Over the last decade, Pumas had at least three opportunities to end that drought in CU , but fell in all of them: in the 2015 Apertura against Tigres , in the 2020 Apertura against León , and in the 2022 Concachampions Final against Seattle Sounders . Finally, it was Cruz Azul who put an end to that streak, albeit as a temporary tenant.
Santiago Giménez was also present at the final. The AC Milan forward, who came through the youth ranks at Celta, attended the match from one of the stadium's stands, accompanied by his father, "Chaco" Giménez, and his sister. He was captured by fans and cameras celebrating the goals and waving to the fans, demonstrating his closeness to the club.
This championship doesn't just bring the trophy. Cruz Azul has secured its spot in the 2025 Intercontinental Cup , where it will face the Copa Libertadores champion. If it advances, it could play a match against the African or Asian champion, and eventually, a possible final against Paris Saint-Germain. In addition, the Mexican club also secured its ticket to the 2029 Club World Cup .
The Celeste's victory had an added flavor, as it put the frustration of their bitter rivals behind them. While América was eliminated from all major competitions this season, Cruz Azul not only won the title, but also tied them as the team with the most wins in the regional tournament, something that hadn't happened since 2014.
With this victory, Cruz Azul adds to its list of titles won in 1969, 1970, 1971, 1996, 1997, 2014, and now 2025. Its history in the Concacaf Champions League is rekindled, and the club is preparing for new international challenges with a renewed roster and a headquarters that, although temporary, has already brought them unexpected joy.
