This person had an intercom with him and used it to contact a nearby person, who reported the accident to the rescue services. However, the location of the crash was unknown. After half an hour, the dog caught the attention of a member of the rescue team .
The hole where the man fell became more visible as the crew followed the dog . Rescuers rappelled down, rescued the man, and airlifted him and his canine companion to the nearest hospital.

" Imagine if the dog hadn't been there. I have no idea what would have happened to the man. I don't think he would have survived this fall into the crevasse ," said Bruno Kalbermatten, a spokesman for Air Zermatt , as quoted by the AP.
