A lawyer reveals the trick to avoid paying for hand luggage on Ryanair.

The problem is that air travel is becoming increasingly complicated. And we're not just talking about choosing the destination, but also about packing your luggage .
The truth is that traveling on low-cost airlines can end up being a headache. Companies like Vueling, Ryanair , or EasyJet mean having to deal with strict policies or extra charges for certain services. However, the biggest controversy always relates to carry-on luggage in the cabin . Despite the fact that having to comply with specific measures is normalized, for many it is still a nuisance.
In Ryanair's case, this year cabin bags, i.e., luggage carried without checking in, must meet the dimensions of 40 x 20 x 25 centimeters , while if you book the service, the carry-on bag must be 55 x 40 x 20 centimeters and up to 10 kg . If the carry-on bag exceeds these dimensions, it will go to the hold with a fee of between 70 and 75 euros . However, a lawyer has shared the trick on his social networks to avoid having to pay for carry-on luggage.

In one of his videos, lawyer @lawtips recalled ruling 787/2022 , which considered the charge for carry-on luggage to be unfair, as it is one of the passenger's minimum and essential items. In fact, the ruling establishes that this type of luggage does not require additional security from the airlines, unlike carry-on luggage.
"It's an abusive clause," says the expert. It should be noted that the legal basis for the ruling is Article 97 of the Air Navigation Law . Furthermore, regulations prohibit imposing additional charges on carry-on baggage. This practice by low-cost airlines is not protected by European Regulation 1008/2008.
For this reason, the lawyer asserts that if this has happened to someone, they should file a claim against the airline, providing evidence and citing this ruling . If the airline doesn't respond, they will have to go to the European Consumer Centre in Spain or file a direct claim without the need for a professional.
