The newly opened hiking trail that is ideal for summer: between forests and viewpoints

The Ribeira Sacra is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating areas of both Galicia and Spain. This region in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula is home to true natural wonders that amaze all who dare to discover them. It's no wonder it's one of the country's greatest paradises for trekking enthusiasts, and splendid routes run through it, ideal for the summer months.

Two new trails have now been added to the multitude of trails found in this impressive geographical area between southern Lugo and northern Ourense, allowing hiking enthusiasts to discover new places in the Ribeira Sacra. Both start in the municipality of Taboada, one of the most prominent municipalities in the Chantada region, which anyone can explore thanks to these new routes, especially those who follow the exciting Embelesadora Route.

Taboada's Enchanting Route through the Ribeira Sacra

This fantastic circular route, more than ten kilometers long, starts from the Chapel of the Church of Vilela, one of the parishes that make up the municipality of Taboada. From there, hikers enter an environment dominated by the Miño River, as well as lush forests and other natural landscapes of great beauty that combine the most exciting Galician essence and where temperatures are not too high.

Along forest trails flanked by vineyards, you reach the parishes of Sobrecedo and Campo, two more villages tucked away among the vast vegetation of the Ribeira Sacra. Along the way, you can also admire other treasures such as the Belesar reservoir or, if you're lucky, the Castro Candaz, an impressive pre-Roman settlement that is occasionally submerged beneath the waters of the reservoir.

After about three hours exploring fascinating sites, always with the Miño River as your companion, you arrive back at your starting point after an unforgettable day in the Ribeira Sacra. The Embelesadora Route is undoubtedly one of the best options for hiking enthusiasts in Galicia to complete an extraordinary itinerary and also escape the stifling summer heat.

The Camiño dos Mouros, another route near Taboada

In addition to this magnificent trail, another hiking route has recently opened in Taboada, the Camiño dos Mouros, a short path of less than two kilometers that hides great treasures and is also a wonderful summer hike. This Lugo municipality has undoubtedly become a Galician pilgrimage center for trekking enthusiasts thanks to these two new trails.
