Climate change is relentless in Latin America, and that's why, last year, the region ranked among the hottest and most affected by extreme events such as fires, floods, and hurricanes. However, one city has captured the attention of experts because it is experiencing the greatest impact. Which is it?
Argentina is being severely affected by climate change , with a significant increase in extreme events such as prolonged heat waves, severe droughts, and heavy rainfall, especially in the center and north of the country.
According to Meteored , the country recorded the worst thermal anomaly in South America between 2024 and early 2025, with temperatures almost one degree above the historical average, and was the country with the most extreme weather events in the region.
Without going any further, the hardest-hit city was Córdoba, one of the most important cities in the country not only for its economic importance but also as a strategic sector . "This province leads the ranking of cities with the greatest climate anomalies in the region, with an increase of 1.2°C above average and 22 days of extreme heat risk." The website notes that Buenos Aires is also among the most affected, ranking tenth with a 0.7°C increase, while Rosario follows closely behind with a 0.6°C increase.
“These figures reflect a growing problem that not only affects the well-being of the population, but also regional infrastructure and economies. Eighty-four percent of Latin America's population experienced at least 30 days of anomalously high temperatures, which would not have occurred without the impact of global warming. In Argentina, 40 days of these extreme conditions were recorded, 18 of which were directly attributable to climate change, according to experts.” (READ MORE: What is the 'plant of abundance' according to Feng Shui?
