Trump also wants to sit down with Putin without Zelensky

Trump also wants to sit down with Putin without Zelensky

Putin said yesterday that he believes it's too early for direct talks with Zelenskyy. He's not opposed to negotiations "in general," he said, but he does believe certain conditions must be met.

Possibly as early as next week

Rumors of talks between Trump, Putin, and Zelensky have been circulating for days. The US president reportedly said these could take place as early as next week , sources reported this week.

Trump and Putin have spoken by phone several times this year. In February, Trump said he would likely meet Putin soon, but that didn't happen.

The New York Times reported this week, citing sources, that Trump only wants such a meeting if Putin also sits down with Zelensky. The US president now appears to have changed his mind.

Meanwhile, the deadline Trump set for a peace deal expires today.

"Donald Trump seems to have faith in personal diplomacy, meeting Putin in person," André Gerrits, emeritus professor of International Studies and Global Politics, explained to RTL Nieuws yesterday. "But I see no concrete indications that Putin is adjusting his war goals."
