THE RUNDOWN

  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s rep shut down a report that Harry had registered his son, Archie, for Eton College.
  • Harry attended the all boys’ boarding school in England.
  • The Duke of Sussex has been vocal about being unable to bring his children and wife to the U.K. due to security risks.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s spokesperson does not often address rumors about the couple, but the rep made a rare exception today to set the record straight on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s plans for their oldest child Archie’s education. The Daily Beast published a report alleging Harry had registered the 6-year-old to attend the elite British all-boys’ boarding school, Eton College, where he studied.

That’s far from the truth, the spokesperson told E!: “I can confirm that Prince Harry has not put Archie’s name down for Eton, and that the Duke has no plans to send his son to Eton.”

Harry and Meghan have been raising their children in Montecito, California. The Duke of Sussex has been open about feeling unable to take Archie or their daughter, Lilibet, to the U.K. due to security risks.

The couple lost their taxpayer-funded police protection when they stepped back from their working royal family roles in 2020; Harry has since fought in court for the right to pay for police protection when they are in the U.K., to no avail.

In May, Harry lost an appeal for his case. Shortly after, he told the BBC, “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the U.K. at this point.”

He also addressed the strain between him and the royal family: “There have been so many disagreements between myself and some of my family,” he admitted, noting he has since “forgiven” them and “would love reconciliation.”

Last week, Harry spoke to The Guardian about how his recent meeting with his father, King Charles III, has changed the way he feels about bringing Lili and Archie to England. He said he’d like to, and “this week has definitely brought that closer.”
