Last week, the richest man in the world (with a black eye) left the White House. For four months, Elon Musk led the Department of Government Efficiency, a pseudo-ministry of his own creation that announced billions in budget cuts. Now that he’s gone, the question is: what will he leave behind?
In this episode, Marike and foreign editor Merijn de Waal, who closely follows the tech billionaire, discuss how we should view Elon Musk alongside Donald Trump. What do these two have in common, and how will their bromance continue? How powerful is Elon Musk really? What was his goal, and what did he gain from his political adventure?
But Marike and Merijn also want to know what we can learn from Musk's ambitious attempt to cut back on the American government. That attempt is also a response to real problems: the enormous American budget deficits and a great dissatisfaction with the functioning of the government. Was Musk perhaps the wrong answer to the right question?
