One person was injured and three people became unwell in an explosion of an electricity box in an NS train between Alkmaar and Uitgeest on Sunday evening, reports news agency ANP.
The electrical cabinet was behind a wall in a small hall of the train. The explosion caused part of the wall to blow away. One of the passengers suffered a head injury and had to go to the hospital. Later, three other passengers became unwell due to the released smoke.
An investigation is underway into how the explosion could have happened.
Evacuation trainsAfter the incident, the train came to a standstill near Castricum and the train's electricity was disconnected. Eventually, all 650 passengers were taken to Alkmaar by evacuation trains. A spokesperson for the NS called it "very bad that passengers had to go through this" to ANP. Due to the incident, train traffic between Alkmaar and Uitgeest was halted for a few hours on Sunday evening, but by 23:00 all restrictions were lifted.
