'Ghost nets' kill thousands of birds and fish every year. AI will help get rid of them
Despite the numerous concerns and controversies surrounding the development of artificial intelligence, it cannot be denied that it can bring many benefits. Among other things, its potential in the field of environmental protection is undeniable, a perfect example of which is a new project carried out by the German branch of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) - an international non-governmental organization working to protect endangered animal species and valuable natural places around the world. As part of the new initiative, artificial intelligence will help locate and then remove so-called ghost nets - lost or abandoned fishing nets that pose a serious threat to marine ecosystems.
