A ten-meter-long dead whale found in the Świnoujście harbor basin

A dead whale, approximately ten meters long, is floating in the Świnoujście harbor basin. The mammal was dragged there by a tanker carrying gas to the LNG terminal.
According to preliminary estimates, it is a 10-meter-long whale. "However, we do not yet have full confirmation of the species," said Agnieszka Veljković, spokeswoman for the WWF Poland Foundation.
"The animal swam up on the bow of a tanker, but we're still trying to determine exactly where it came from. Initial suspicions are that it may have become entangled on the bow of a tanker somewhere in the Danish Straits. At this point, we can't precisely determine the species. Only then will we be able to narrow down its range," she added.
She said the mammal will remain in the Baltic Sea waters for about the weekend.
"Specialized equipment is required to pull the animal to shore. The operation is quite complex logistically. We will decide on further steps in the coming days," Veljković emphasized.
As reported by Weronika Gocłowska, spokeswoman for the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority, the mammal fell during port maneuvers and began to drift around the port basin.
- It has been secured and at the moment we are waiting for WWF scientists who will conduct further investigations to determine what actually happened - she stressed.
Gocłowska added that the shipowner is responsible for both the transport and the animal. The situation did not impact the process of accepting the shipment at the terminal and did not cause any delays.
