The reasons were: outstanding achievements in activities for providing humanitarian aid, developing the Polish support system for people living in areas affected by natural disasters and armed conflicts; outstanding achievements in activities for providing aid to those in need, promoting the idea of Food Banks; or achievements in activities for preserving and popularizing the heritage of Polish culture and history.

The Golden Cross of Merit was awarded to Polsat journalist Małgorzata Ziętkiewicz.

More controversial are the Silver Crosses of Merit, which went to former TVP reporters during the PiS government: Maksymilian Maszenda and Marcin Tulicki. The former currently works at TV Republika, and the latter at another right-wing television station wPolsce24. "A great honour for me. Thank you," Tulicki commented on social media.

Marcin Tulicki and Maksymilian Maszenda. What are they famous for?

Tulicki was dismissed from Telewizja Polska immediately after the change of government. "GW" reported in January 2024 that "his employment conditions have been significantly improved in recent months". All this in order to extort additional severance payments. Tulicki is the author of a film about Donald Tusk "Our Man in Warsaw" and about Radosław Sikorski "Pan z Chobielina". He has repeatedly prepared critical materials about the opposition during the rule of Law and Justice.

Maszenda in his materials compared the Polish opposition to the regime of Alexander Lukashenko, and attacked Tusk. The Media Ethics Council once found that his materials concerning the former Speaker of the Sejm Tomasz Grodzki used "defamatory terms". The Journalists' Association reported that in 2020, on the last day before the election silence, the record for the length of a material accusing the PO candidate for president Rafał Trzaskowski was broken. It was seven minutes.
