The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) announced on Thursday the results of the tender for the expansion of the 15-kilometer section of the DK22 national road from Wałcz to Człopa. The PLN 178 million investment is scheduled for completion by 2029.

Five companies submitted a tender for the expansion of the DK22 section between Wałcz and Człopa. According to the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA), the most advantageous offer came from PORR, a Warsaw-based company willing to complete the project for PLN 177.998 million. The most expensive bid (MIRBUD SA) was for nearly PLN 10 million more.

The contract will be implemented under a "design and build" formula. Over 15 km of the completely rebuilt and widened DK22 is scheduled for completion in 2029.

First, design documentation will be developed, and based on this, a decision on a road investment permit (ZRID) will be obtained. The contractor will have 17 months to complete this. Construction work on site will take another 22 months, said Mateusz Grzeszczuk, spokesperson for the Szczecin branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA).

These dates do not include the winter break periods, which are scheduled from December 16 to March 15.

As highlighted in a press release by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA), the current DK22 does not meet the standard of a GP road, meaning a major expressway. It is too narrow (6 meters wide in most sections) and has a deteriorated surface that does not provide adequate load-bearing capacity.

The project will involve the construction of a new 7-meter-wide road structure, suitable for heavy vehicles (load capacity 11.5 tons per axle). A pedestrian-cycle path is planned along the DK22 expressway, improving safety and comfort for residents. The project will also include the construction of four channelized intersections (with an island separating traffic directions) and one roundabout. The project also includes seven animal crossings (including two overpasses) and the construction of a bay for vehicle inspection by the Road Transport Inspectorate (ITD).

The project has been divided into two subsections: from the Człopa bypass to the Rusinów bypass, and from Rusinów to Wałcz. In the latter section, near Prusinówek, the DK22 will be shifted west to divert through traffic away from the town.

The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) has announced that it will sign a contract with the contractor within a few weeks, assuming there are no appeals against the tender results.

The remaining bidders have 10 days to appeal against the selection of their offer to the National Chamber of Appeal, explained Grzeszczuk.

Price was the most important factor in the bid evaluation criteria (55 points out of 100). The extended quality warranty was valued at 20 points. The same amount could be awarded for a longer warranty on bridge structures, and 5 points for the on-site management of recovered asphalt reclaim.

The thorough reconstruction of the DK22 road south of Wałcz is one of the major investments underway on this national road in the eastern part of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) reminded that work is underway on the bypass around the town of Sweden and the Ostrowiec-Sweden section. The Wałcz and Rusinów bypasses are in the process of obtaining ZRID permits, and the first work is scheduled to begin this year. Design documentation is being prepared for the section from Człopa to the border of the Lubusz Voivodeship.

DK 22 runs from the Polish-German border (Kostrzyn nad Odrą) through the following voivodeships: Lubusz, Greater Poland, West Pomeranian, Pomeranian and Warmian-Masurian.
