Jan Zielonka: The Virus of Megalomania
In my youth, we sang a song with hope about walls that " will fall and bury the old world". Today, we are hastily building walls on the eastern border, and some also want a wall on the western border. In our youth, we wanted to privatize and internationalize our inefficient economy, and today we hear that it must be Polonized or nationalized. In our youth, we dreamed of joining a united Europe, and today we are blocking further joint EU initiatives, such as the migration pact or the Green Deal. In our youth, we demanded that the authorities respect international law, and today we applaud the authorities when they suspend or ignore these laws.
