Knitting in the Gardens Downtown

World Knitting Day is a meeting for lovers of handicrafts - both experienced creators and those who would like to try their hand or simply watch the work of other craftsmen. For almost the entire Saturday, attractions related to knitting and crocheting are taking place in the Gardens of Śródmieście.

- This is an event that has been organized all over the world for several years, as the name suggests. For the first time - after a long break - we decided to organize it and we hope that it will be more cyclical and organized here without interruption. We invited people who knit and those who don't knit, those who want to learn and those who already knit.

Today, different people come here and knit, they bring their handicrafts. Everyone knits what they want according to their own preferences, but for example, a lady came who would like to learn how to make a specific type of bag, and I know that there will be some ladies who can make such a bag. I think they will easily suggest how. Those who can neither knit nor crochet will have the opportunity to make their first stitches. I think there will be something nice for everyone. For those who can't and don't want to learn to knit, but like handicraft - for them there are auctions and there is a stand for Adaś Orlik - explains co-organizer Marzena Sachmata. - I've been knitting my whole life, I've always knitted something - not necessarily crochet, but now I always have something knitted and crocheted. You could say that handicraft is in my blood. Regardless of whether it's fashionable or not. It is such a wonderful activity, and the work of creation gives great satisfaction and relaxation - adds Ewa Ciesielska, also responsible for the organization of the event. Already at the beginning of the event, the first ladies appeared and started knitting and crocheting together. On the stage, there was, among other things, a debate with invited guests (of course, concerning the passion for handicraft), competitions and auctions. Guests could also see interesting knitting projects. By purchasing some of the items, it was possible to support the collection for Adaś Orlik. World Knit in Public Day is a holiday celebrated on the second Saturday of June and invented in 2005 by Danielle Landes. It is an opportunity to popularize crocheting and knitting, as well as to present the community of craftsmen focused on knitting. ©℗(aj)
