Mika Urbaniak: I postponed my life "until later" because I am overweight

Paulina Socha-Jakubowska, "Wprost": You showed on social media that you started training pole dance .

Mika Urbaniak: It's about accepting yourself, it's about loving yourself, it's about discovering feminine energy through movement and dance. Ultimately, it's about the relationship with your body, which I no longer want to escape, I don't want to be accompanied by a sense of shame.

As a person, as a woman, as an artist, I am who I am. Including my body.

This is a very important moment in my life. I treat dance therapeutically. Regular psychotherapy has done as much for me as it could. Now I'm entering a different, new phase. I want to continue to learn, strengthen, and develop myself, and dance can help me do that.

Have you ever been shamed for your body?

I'm overweight, and it's unhealthy. Everyone knows that. But I still operate in an environment where everyone is watching you.

Even after I left the hospital and gained a lot of weight because of the medications I started taking, my weight was widely commented on. I read things like, "Oh my God, she's gained so much weight!"

I've experienced body shaming, but given the pressure to "look a certain way," it's rather obvious. Sure, it's a painful experience, but today, what matters most to me isn't how others look at me, but rather the relationship I have with my body.
