A restaurant in the Italian city of Merano was fined four thousand euros. Inspectors discovered that a different cheese was served on the plate than the one indicated on the menu. Fines for such a mistake can amount to a fine of up to 13 thousand euros.

Italian media reported that a restaurant in the northern Italian town of Merano was fined four thousand euros for serving customers cheese other than that indicated on the menu . The discrepancy was discovered by representatives of a consortium of parmesan producers.

Representatives were sent by the consortium and demanded that the restaurant be punished. They explained their decision by the need to protect the brand of their product.

It turned out that the restaurant's menu featured Parmigiano Reggiano cheese . This is a certified cheese from the Emilia-Romagna region, which is produced in the cities of Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena and Bologna.

Customers, however, received Grana Padano cheese on a plate. It is also made from cow's milk, is also hard and rennet, but it is produced in 32 provinces of the Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige regions.
