Sunday race in the city center. Bikes instead of bombs

Alleycat Not Bombs is a bike race organized on Sunday afternoon by the group Food Not Bombs. A dozen or so people took part in the event, riding around the city on a designated route.

All the points indicated on the route - there were a dozen of them - were related to the activities of the group "Food Not Bombs". The race started at the intersection of Malczewsiego and Wyzwolenia streets, under a skyscraper, where during the winter activists distribute free, warm meals to the homeless and those in need. In this year's edition of AlleyCat Not Bombs, there were two routes through Szczecin to choose from - an easier one and a more difficult one. All participants chose the more difficult one. The first point on this route was ul. Szwedzka and ul. Duńska, the last - Łąka KANY. At each indicated point, participants in the race had to complete a task: get a stamp, find an object, provide the number or name of the indicated location, etc. The winner is the one who gets the most points in the shortest time.

- As Food Not Bombs, we always have a break in the summer, but in order not to rest on our laurels, to have something going on and have a little fun, we organize such a race. This is the second year. It is a race around the city in normal bicycle traffic and you have to count points. Winning the competition is purely honorary, and the income from it is donated to the activities of Food Not Bombs - says Michał Przyborowski, the event organizer.

The race was attended by professionals only - including a competitor who recently completed the route from Świnoujście to Ustrzyki Dolne. AlleyCat is popular all over the world. These are competitions held in cities, in normal city traffic. Most often, bicycle couriers take part in them. Characteristic features of alleycat include so-called manifestos, i.e. a list of tasks to be performed, and spokes, i.e. laminated cards with the competitor's number. ©℗
