The Border Guard is preparing for another expansion of its electronic barrier system, which is to be built on the Polish-Ukrainian border (in the Lublin and Podkarpackie Voivodeships), Radio Zet reported. It would cover the entire border with Ukraine, covering over 530 km.

Today, a 30-kilometer section of such protection is already in operation in the Jarosław and Przemyśl counties in the Podkarpacie region. It was constructed between 2019 and 2021.

– As part of the investment, approximately 300 camera poles were placed, approximately 400 thermal imaging and day-night cameras were installed, 1 telecommunications container was installed, and a Surveillance Center was established at the Bieszczady Border Guard Headquarters in Przemyśl – said Lt. Col. Andrzej Juźwiak, press spokesman for the Border Guard Commander-in-Chief, in an interview with Radio Zet.

According to unofficial findings by Radio Zet, the Border Guard, when planning further actions, was to divide the over 500 kilometers of the Polish-Ukrainian border, which remained to be secured, into four parts – along the Bug River (228 kilometers) and the subsequent parts running along the land border, with lengths of 69, 42 and 166 kilometers.

According to media reports, the first step is to build an electronic barrier along a 69-kilometer section. However, the Border Guard has not yet announced a tender for the fieldwork. "Further construction of the state border security system on the border with Ukraine is currently in the planning stage, so we are not providing detailed information on this matter at this time," the spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Border Guard stated briefly.
