They covered her with a blanket and sat her down next to the couple. They flew like this for several hours with the body. Drama in the sky
Anxiety, fear and sadness. Mitchell Ring and Jennifer Colin from Melbourne had no choice. During a long-haul flight to Qatar, where they had a connecting flight to Venice, a dead woman was seated next to them. "They couldn't save her. It was heartbreaking," they told the media.
The tragedy unfolded last week on a Qatar Airways flight to Doha, Qatar. During the flight, one of the passengers fainted. The woman fainted in the aisle. The cabin crew rushed to her aid. Despite the help provided, she could not be saved. She was pronounced dead.
The flight continued. The crew initially tried to transfer the body to business class.
They tried to move her, they brought a wheelchair and put her in it. They tried to get it into business class, but the deceased was quite a large woman and they couldn't get her through the aisle.
– Mitchell Ring explained to the media.
At that time, the man did not know that the woman's body would rest right next to him and his partner. And that's how they would spend several hours during the flight.
The crew noticed that there were empty seats on either side of the couple and asked them to move to make room for... a body. The dead woman was seated next to Ring. She was covered with blankets for the remaining four hours of the flight to Doha.
The couple was terrified. It was a traumatic experience.
When my husband turned around and said, "Move, move," I was shocked and said, "Are they going to put her there?"
– said Jennifer Colin.
The staff allegedly did not offer the couple a transfer to another seat. The airline is to investigate the matter.
The terrified Australian woman managed to move to another seat. And that was only thanks to a woman who had a spare seat and invited her in, seeing her terror.
Once the plane landed in Qatar, the couple still couldn't leave their seats. They had to wait for the police and medics. They emphasize that both were terrified by the situation, and their dreams of a vacation in Venice were overshadowed by this drama. Both feel great anxiety when they think about having to return to the airport.
