Three new Honorary Citizens of the City? The committee has approved it, and the final vote belongs to the councilors.

During the recent (29th of last month) session of the Commission for the Assessment of Applications for the Title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Przemyśl, three applications concerning deceased residents of Przemyśl gained the approval of this body. The proposals that received a positive opinion must still gain the approval of the city council.
The decision of the committee evaluating applications for the city's highest distinction is not final. The signed draft resolution on this matter must be submitted to a vote of councilors, who will decide whether the three mentioned individuals will receive the title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Przemyśl. Who are we talking about?
Among the candidates for this type of distinction is Sara Staszyszyn, well-known to most of the residents of Mysłowice – she died on December 25 last year. The world, European and Polish wheelchair dancing champion, who throughout her life proved to others that limitations are not an obstacle to achieving dreams. She passed away when she was only 18 years old. She was remembered as a great warrior, a person full of determination and passion, who from a young age struggled with an incurable disease – congenital brittle bone disease, degree III. Sara's entire achievements and her exceptional attitude to life provide a solid basis for awarding her the noble title of honorary citizenship of the city. She deserved it like few others.
Always positive, full of energy and ideasThe application for granting honorary citizenship to Wacław Morawski (who died on November 17, 2021) was submitted by the Special Educational and Upbringing Center No. 2 named after Dr. J. Korczak in Przemyśl. The candidate for the title was known for his many years of activity for the community of hard of hearing and deaf people, he was a promoter and organizer of many valuable initiatives and events for them, for over 30 years he was also the president of the Local Circle of the Polish Association of the Deaf in Przemyśl. In the years 1969-1984 he also served as the president of the board of the PTTK Circle in Przemyśl, and in the years 1970-1974 the president of the sports club at the PZG. For his tireless work he was awarded many times, including: the Golden Cross of Merit, the Silver Cross of Merit, the Badge of Merit for Tourism, the Golden Badge of Honor of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Association and the Golden Badge of Honor of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society. He was remembered by many as a very positive person, full of energy and ideas.
Youth and AA pastorThe third positively reviewed candidate for the title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Przemyśl is the deceased on July 23rd of last year, pastor of the parish of St. Benedict, Cyril and Methodius in Przemyśl, Rev. Prelate Jan Mazurek. In the matter of his candidacy, the applicants collected over 600 signatures. As pastor of Przemyśl parishes (formerly the parish of the Holy Trinity in Przemyśl), for over 27 years he also served as moderator of the Youth Apostolate Movement of the Przemyśl Archdiocese. He was also a Chaplain for the Blind and the Association of Siberians, Branch in Przemyśl, as well as a member of the Program Council of the Archdiocesan Sobriety Ministry and the Council for Family.
– The vote on all three proposals of the commission will most likely take place at the next session of the council – informed Anna Grad-Mizgała, chairwoman of the Commission for the Assessment of Applications for the Title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Przemyśl.
