Will there be a monument to Polish victims in Berlin? There are supporters of this in the new chancellor's circle
The CDU/CSU coalition won the German parliamentary elections, winning 208 seats. The AfD came in second, and will thus bring 152 members to the Bundestag. While the Alternative for Germany achieved the best result in its 12-year history, the SPD did not have such low ratings since 1945 – with 120 seats, Olaf Scholz's party came in third. The candidate for chancellor is the CDU/CSU leader Friedrich Merz, who, by excluding the coalition with the AfD, will form a government with the SPD.
