Wizz Air illegally charged passengers fees. Must return money
Wizz Air will have to adjust its consumer policy, writes the aviation industry portal CH-aviation. This is the result of a ruling by the country's Supreme Court, which found that the airline had 111 unfair terms in its travel conditions. The disputed issues included a €40 fee charged for airport check-in, as well as the practice of imposing a 12-month validity period on vouchers equivalent to an unfulfilled journey.
Wizz Air vouchers issued illegallyEarlier, the Austrian Chamber of Labour won a case against the airline in court, which also ruled on February 17 that the Hungarian low-cost carrier's action of refunding the cost of unused tickets in the form of "Wizz" vouchers without the written consent of passengers is illegal.
The ruling also means that all fees the carrier has charged for check-in at the airport since 2018 will have to be refunded and expired Wizz vouchers will be replaced with new codes and will remain valid for five years from the date of re-issue.
