A documentary about Kasia Sobczyk. The singer's colorful life.

This photograph comes from one of the two editions (1962–1963) of the Young Talent Festival in Szczecin. These festivals were talked about throughout Poland. Katarzyna Sobczyk was recognized by the jury in 1963. Photo: Zbigniew WRÓBLEWSKI
This year marks two anniversaries – the eightieth birthday (February 21st) and the tenth death (July 28th) – of Koszalin-born singer Kasia Sobczyk. Her hits from the 1960s and 1970s have been hummed by three generations of Poles. It's worth taking this opportunity to revisit the singer's life story.
Kasia Sobczyk had everything she needed to win the hearts of audiences from the very beginning of her career – innate charm, beauty, and, most importantly, vocal talent. It's hard to imagine the Polish music scene of the 1960s without her songs. "The Little Prince," "Thirteen," "O mnie się nie waha" (Don't Worry About Me), and "Był taki kto" (There Was Someone), to name just a few of her unforgettable hits.
Her career began in Szczecin at the 2nd Festival of Young Talents in 1963, when the jury recognized her interpretation of songs performed there and selected her for the event's Golden Ten. Shortly afterward, she was hired by the band Czerwono-Czarni, based at the Szczecin Stage. With them and other vocalists, including Helena Majdaniec, Karin Stanek, and Jacek Lech, she toured throughout Poland and beyond for years. She won awards at the Opole festival and enjoyed enormous popularity for the time.
Unfortunately, her personal life wasn't as successful. It was filled with dramatic, even tragic, moments that she sometimes found difficult to cope with. And it is precisely this vibrant – artistic and personal – life of Kasia Sobczyk that is explored in the documentary "Kasia Sobczyk – There Was Someone Like That," directed by Mirosław Salski and Bogdan Bogiel. Kasia herself, along with her friends and family, witnesses to those years, share her story.
The film is produced by Boogie Production Bogdan Bogiel and the West Pomeranian Film Fund "Pomerania." After the screening, there will be an opportunity to talk with the film's producer.
The film will be screened on September 25, 2025 (Thursday) at 7:00 PM in the Baptist Church Hall in Szczecin, at 4 Stoisława Street. Admission is free.
