Remember Indiana Jones's whip? You'll never guess how much it sold for.

Remember Indiana Jones's whip? You'll never guess how much it sold for.

The whip used by Harrison Ford in the 1989 film "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" was sold on Thursday in the US for $525,000, or almost 2 million złoty, at a week-long auction by Heritage Auctions.

" The bullwhip is an iconic symbol of Indiana Jones , an iconic character in film history, and (the bidding on this item) is the highlight of this auction," Joe Maddalena, vice president of the auction house, told the AP.

In all films about an adventurous hunter of historical artifacts, the main character appears in a leather jacket, a fedora and with a whip on his belt.

The prop sold on Thursday previously belonged to actor Harrison Ford , who played Indiana Jones. During the British premiere of the third installment of the series, Ford gave it to the then-heir to the throne and current British monarch, Charles . He, in turn, gave it to his first wife, Diana , and the Duchess gave the whip to its current owner. His identity, like that of the current buyer, has not been revealed.

While half a million dollars is a significant sum, Indiana's whip wasn't the most expensive movie prop sold at auction. The "Rosebud" sled from Orson Welles' 1941 film "Citizen Kane" fetched $14.75 million. Three examples of the film sled are known to have survived. One was purchased by Steven Spielberg in 1982 for $60,500, and in 1996, an anonymous buyer paid $233,000 for the third.

Although the sled appeared in a film that many consider the greatest in cinematic history, it didn't surpass the price of ruby slippers recently sold at another auction. A buyer paid a whopping $32.5 million for the shoes worn by Judy Garland in "The Wizard of Oz."

Friday is the last day of the prop auction. Those interested still have a chance to win Macaulay Culkin's hat from "Home Alone," the revolver used by Kurt Russell in "Wyatt Earp," and a pair of swords from "Kill Bill Vol. 1." A first edition Harry Potter novel signed by J.K. Rowling is also up for sale.
