Prof. Dr. Hab. Jacek Banaszkiewicz received the Lednica Piast Eagle Award from the Marshal of the Wielkopolska Province, Marek Woźniak, on Thursday. The outstanding medievalist was honored for his entire scientific work.

The ceremony of presenting the Lednica Piast Eagle Award took place on Thursday in Ostrów Lednicki.

Prof. Dr. Hab. Jacek Banaszkiewicz was honored for his entire scientific work. The Marshal's Office of the Wielkopolska Region in Poznań emphasized in a statement that Prof. Banaszkiewicz's scientific work "in an innovative and interdisciplinary way contributed to a deeper understanding of the Piast tradition and narratives legitimizing power in medieval Poland."

"Professor Banaszkiewicz's scientific achievements include four books, numerous scientific articles, editing collective volumes and extensive popularization activities, lectures, participation in the media and educational projects. As a long-time employee of the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, he also played a significant role in educating subsequent generations of researchers," it was indicated.

The Lednica Piast Eagle Award is an honorary award established by the Wielkopolska Province Board, on the initiative of the Museum of the First Piasts in Lednica. It is awarded annually by the Marshal of the Wielkopolska Province for outstanding achievements in the field of scientific research and dissemination of knowledge about the role of the Piast dynasty in the history of Poland and Europe, as well as the protection of the Piast cultural heritage.

Since 2009, the laureates of the award have included: prof. dr hab. Gerard Labuda, prof. dr hab. Henryk Samsonowicz, prof. Hanna Kóčka-Krenz. (PAP)
