Germany's earnings are divided. The East is 600 euros a month behind the West.

The median monthly salary in Germany was €4,013 gross in 2024, according to the Federal Employment Agency. In the west of the country, workers earned an average of €578 more than in the east.

The median was calculated for the set of full-time employees subject to health insurance contributions.

According to data from the Federal Employment Agency, German workers earned €217 more per month in 2024 than in 2023. This means that the average wage has exceeded €4,000 for the first time.

Wage growth (5.7%) was higher than inflation (2.2%) in Germany last year, which means that the purchasing power of German workers will increase in 2024.

In Germany, there is still a significant gap between the eastern federal states (formerly East Germany) and the western ones. In the former, workers earn an average of €578 less per month.

The gender gap also exists. Men earn €345 more than women. Foreigners earn significantly less than the average German, €973 less.

The highest salaries in Germany are paid in professions related to medicine, IT, and education. The lowest wages are paid in the restaurant and hotel industries. (PAP)
