Rescue operation at the Polkowice-Sieroszowice copper mine. A miner died

A 37-year-old miner has died after an accident at the Polkowice-Sieroszowice copper mine, and two others are slightly injured. The rockfall occurred on Saturday evening. A three-day mourning period has been declared, KGHM spokesman Artur Newecki said on Sunday.
KGHM spokesman Artur Newecki told PAP that the body of the 37-year-old miner who had been missing since Saturday's accident had been found.
"Unfortunately, it turned out that there was a fatal accident. We express our condolences to the family of the 37-year-old miner. A three-day mourning period has also been declared," said a company representative.
He added that earlier in the night two other miners who suffered an accident were taken to hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
The causes and circumstances of the accident will be investigated by a special commission.
On Saturday evening, just after 9 p.m., in the Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mining Plant in the GG-3 area, rock masses collapsed in a retention reservoir being cleaned. Three workers were in the danger zone. (PAP)
