This increase has the right to arouse emotions. In a few months from 32 to 47 PLN

- More and more municipalities are increasing waste collection fees.
- From July, residents of Nowa Sól and surrounding municipalities will pay PLN 47 for waste.
- The Eco-Future Municipal Association includes 14 municipalities from four counties: Nowa Sól, Zielona Góra, Wschowa and Głogów.
Residents of Nowa Sól and surrounding municipalities will pay PLN 47 for waste, instead of the previous PLN 38. Mayors and heads of communes raised the rate at a meeting of municipalities that belong to the Eko-Przyszłość Association. However, such a price increase outraged residents.
The mayor of the Kolsko commune, Iwona Brzozowska, writing to residents, admits: - Last week, you received information about the increase in waste collection. It is indeed significant, so it has the right to arouse justified emotions.
The mayor explains how this increase came about and why it is necessary.
The current rate per person is PLN 38, but last year it was PLN 32. Meanwhile, from July 1, we will pay PLN 47 for waste collection. This means an increase of PLN 9, or in fact - PLN 15 in a few months.
- he enumerates.
Let us add that the rate has increased from PLN 32 to PLN 38 as of October 1, 2024.
Maintaining the prevailing rate resulted in the surplus being consumedAs Iwona Brzozowska explains, in March 2024, i.e. before the local elections, the Eko-Przyszłość Association decided on a tender for waste collection. It was already known then that the rate should increase as soon as possible. However, the members of the assembly decided to postpone this decision because the association had a surplus in its account (earlier profits).
As it turns out, maintaining the then applicable rate resulted in "consuming" the surplus. - In addition, the deposit system, which was supposed to ultimately relieve Eko-Przyszłość financially, was not implemented, and waste production is increasing - adds the mayor.
- In March, a working meeting of the members of the Eco-Future Assembly took place. We were informed that the rate will probably have to increase to PLN 47. But it will be a guaranteed amount: this year and next year. The second solution is to conduct an open tender, but the price for waste collection may then exceed PLN 50, or even PLN 60 per person! - informs Iwona Brzozowska.
The union members had a choice - either PLN 47 now (until the end of 2026), or PLN 50-60 after the new tender. - It was really a choice of the lesser evil, because no one wants the fees for residents to increase so much - assesses the mayor.
The vote on the resolution on the increase was not unanimous. The Eco-Future Municipal Union includes 14 municipalities from four counties: Nowa Sól, Zielona Góra, Wschowa and Głogów. These local governments are: the city of Nowa Sól and the municipalities: Nowa Sól, Siedlisko, Bytom Odrzański, Kolsko, Nowe Miasteczko, Kożuchów, Otyń, Kargowa, Bojadła, Szlichtyngowa, Sława, Wschowa and Głogów.
The vote on the resolution regarding the increase was not unanimous - even though the subject had been discussed earlier. It was not supported by, among others, the mayors of Otyń and Kożuchów, although they form the board that prepared the resolutions for the meeting, and the mayor of Nowa Sól, who is the chairwoman of the Union's Meeting. Let us add that for several months there has been talk of... preparations by some municipalities to leave the union.
