TOPR appeals: Don't go to the mountains. The weather forecast is terrible.

The Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue (TAPR) issued an appeal on Saturday evening to refrain from all mountain activities in the Tatra Mountains on Sunday. This is due to the exceptionally unfavorable weather forecast, which could pose a serious threat to the lives and health of tourists.

A third-level (highest) warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for the Tatra Mountains district for Sunday. This warning will be accompanied by severe thunderstorms with wind gusts of up to 80 km/h. Localized hail is also possible.
"In such conditions, the wait for help in the event of an accident may be significantly longer," TOPR rescuers emphasized in a message posted on social media. They also appealed for the public to share the warning and inform other tourists.
AdvertisementIn this weather, being on the trails can be dangerous due to rapid stream flows, landslides, mud and limited visibility.
During a storm, it's particularly dangerous to be on ridges, on trails equipped with artificial aids such as chains or clamps, and near watercourses. The Tatra Mountains have seen a significant tourist traffic this past week. Queues to climb the summit formed in front of Giewont's summit dome, as well as on Rysy and in the Orla Perć area. (PAP)
