Do not touch under any circumstances. A statement has been issued

- The first batches of the vaccine will be distributed on Thursday in areas along the Polish border - Dr. Monika Michałowska, spokeswoman for the Provincial Veterinary Inspectorate in Lublin, told PAP.
The campaign has been planned for several days. Depending on weather conditions, a total of over 735,000 doses of the vaccine are to be distributed in the province by Sunday. They will be dropped from planes, including in forests and fields, and in places where it is impossible to drop it - e.g. near buildings - they will be distributed manually by veterinary inspection employees.
Michałowska said that three thousand doses of the vaccine are to be sent to the border zone, in the eastern counties of the province.
The vaccine is in the form of a blister with a liquid, placed in a bait with an intense smell. The vaccine must not be touched, and in the event of contact with the contents of the blister, the skin should be washed immediately with soap and water and a doctor should be contacted .
Veterinary inspectors recommend that dogs and cats that may get into the places where the vaccine is placed should not be allowed to roam free for two weeks after the vaccine is placed. Any contact of pets with the vaccine should be reported to a veterinarian.
This is the second vaccination campaign this year, the previous one was carried out in March. The next one is planned for autumn. Last year, three vaccination campaigns of wild foxes were carried out in the Lublin province - each time over 700 thousand doses of the vaccine were distributed.
Systematic vaccination of foxes carried out for many years has resulted in rabies not being reported in the Lublin province in recent years, or occurring sporadically.
Last year, however, the disease made itself known again - 36 cases of rabies were detected, and this year - another eight. Rabies cases were detected in various locations in the southeastern part of the Lublin province - mainly in foxes, but also in raccoon dogs, cats, dogs, roe deer, martens and even in two cases in cows.
The spread of rabies is probably the result of a significant reduction in vaccinations among wild foxes in Ukraine, where war is ongoing. The disease is probably carried by sick animals that migrate to Poland.
In the Biłgoraj, Hrubieszów, Krasnystaw, Tomaszów, Zamość and Chełm counties, as well as in the cities of Zamość and Chełm, the Lublin Voivode introduced the obligation to vaccinate cats over three months of age against rabies.
Veterinarians recommend that all cat owners vaccinate their cats as a preventive measure. They also remind that other species of animals, such as cattle or horses, can also be vaccinated against rabies. Throughout Poland, rabies vaccinations are mandatory for dogs over three months of age.
Rabies is a dangerous, incurable and deadly disease. The main carrier of rabies in Poland is the red fox. Humans are most often infected by a bite from a sick animal.
The only effective method of preventing rabies is vaccination.
