Total or partial solar eclipses are expected in 2026, 2027, and 2028. The Spanish government has approved a proposal to establish a special commission to "guarantee safety."
Coordination of the work will involve as many as 14 ministries, according to a statement published by the Spanish Ministry of Science. The commission's responsibilities will include, among other things, " ensuring public safety during eclipses ," including the expected movement of hundreds of thousands of people to locations where the astronomical phenomena will be best visible.
In the coming years, a "trio of eclipses" will be observed in Spain, namely:
- two total solar eclipses (August 12, 2026 and August 2, 2027),
- partial eclipse (January 26, 2028).
The Ministry of Science describes it as an "extraordinary astronomical phenomenon" that will attract the interest of the public, tourists and the scientific community.
- Since 1905, a total solar eclipse has not been seen on the Iberian Peninsula, and in this case, Spain will be the only inhabited territory where it will be possible to observe it - the Ministry of Science emphasized, writing about next year's total eclipse.
In Poland, total solar eclipses in 2026 and 2027 will be visible only as partial eclipses.
