The PAP Local Government Service reported that the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy announced the start of the call for applications under the "Respite Care" 2026 program, addressed to local government units.
The project aims to support municipalities and counties in organizing support for families who care for people with disabilities on a daily basis. Thanks to government funding, local governments will be able to create places where caregivers receive support in carrying out their duties.
PLN 205,166,000 has been allocated for the program, which will enable the implementation of care services across Poland . The maximum amount of funding that a single municipality or district can apply for is PLN 3 million.
Applications should be submitted to the relevant voivode by November 3, 2025, via the generator available on the website.
The Ministry of Family emphasizes that the aim of the program is not only to provide assistance to people with disabilities, but also to create a space for rest for their caregivers .
Thanks to this support, people involved in the daily care of a person with a disability will have time that they can spend on rest and regeneration, as well as on dealing with essential life matters, the ministry noted in a statement.
Benefits provided under the program are temporary and are initiated in situations where caregivers are unable to perform their duties for various reasons.
Program rules and deadlines for task implementationThe "Respite Care" program is aimed at local government units that can apply for funds to organize care services for families and caregivers of people with disabilities.
Funding can be used for purposes such as providing care in the person's place of residence or in specialized facilities . Funds will be provided as an advance payment or reimbursement of incurred costs.
The tasks will be carried out from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026, therefore the starting date of the task cannot be earlier than January 1, 2026 - as indicated in the regulations.
Respite care, in addition to material support, has a social and psychological dimension - it relieves the burden on people who have cared for dependent loved ones for years.
