The government is being reshuffled. We now officially know the name of the new health minister.
Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda , the current president of Szpitale Pomorskie sp. z o.o., will become the new Minister of Health. Prime Minister Donald Tusk presented the composition of the new Council of Ministers on Wednesday (July 23).
She will replace Izabela Leszczyna , who has headed the Ministry of Health since December 2023.
The Prime Minister emphasized that all the ministers whom he thanked for their cooperation deserve recognition and thanks, and that he assessed their work positively.
- Minister Leszczyna has done a really great job - he said, pointing out, among other things, the unblocking of funds from the KPO.
"We managed to quickly and painlessly arrange billions of zlotys to support Poland's healthcare system, in various forms, from European funds. This was the first task at the time, because the Law and Justice party (PiS) wasted a lot of time. They wasted a lot of Poles' health and lives, also because this money could have been put to work much earlier if it weren't for the European funds from the National Health Fund (KPO) blocked by PiS. And this very difficult task was completed with flying colors. Today, we need a Ministry of Health that is entirely dedicated solely to substantive work," the Prime Minister added.
"Ms. Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda, with a very strong hand, sometimes despite the circumstances, has truly brought order to the healthcare system and hospitals in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. I can attest to this; I observed her actions daily," he said of the new minister.
Donald Tusk announced that the entire Ministry of Health would be depoliticized. He emphasized that Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda received assurances from him that " in the coming days, this ministry will be exclusively in the hands of specialists in managing the entire healthcare system."
He thanked the coalition partners for taking this into account, because "it was not an easy matter for them."
Donald Tusk announced the decisions regarding the government reshuffle after a series of meetings between the leaders of the government coalition: PO, PSL, New Left, and Poland 2050. He also spoke with the ministers who were to lose their positions.
The Prime Minister announced a post-election reshuffle several weeks ago, regardless of the outcome. It was emphasized that this was intended to be an opportunity for an audit, summaries, and "updating priorities."
