Developing a concept of solutions in the area of physicians’ liability to enhance patient safety and reduce the occurrence of adverse events during treatment, including medical errors – this is, among other things, what the team appointed by the Minister of Health, Izabela Leszczyna, is to deal with.
An ordinance on the establishment of the Team for Professional Liability of Physicians and Dentists has been published in the official journal of the Minister of Health
Its chairman was Deputy Minister Jerzy Szafranowicz , and his deputy was Dominika Janiszewska-Kajka , deputy director of the Department of Medical Treatment at the Ministry of Health.
The team also included:
- Łukasz Jankowski – President of the Supreme Medical Council,
- Klaudiusz Komor – Vice-President of the Supreme Medical Council,
- Prof. Rafał Niżankowski,
- dr hab. Anna Augustynowicz – head of the Department of Health Economics and Medical Law, Faculty of Health Sciences, Medical University of Warsaw,
- Dr Łukasz Rosiak – representative of the Department of Criminal Law at the Ministry of Justice,
- Paweł Grzesiewski – Director of the Legal Department at the Office of the Patient Rights Ombudsman,
- Katarzyna Chmielewska-Piętka – representative of the Legal Department at the Ministry of Health,
- Konrad Borowicz – representative of the Legal Department at the Ministry of Health,
- Anna Leśniewska – representative of the Department of Healthcare at the Ministry of Health,
- Łukasz Balcerek – representative of the Department of Healthcare at the Ministry of Health,
- Olga Kozieł – Secretary of the Team – representative of the Department of Healthcare at the Ministry of Health.
The Team’s tasks include:
- analysis of current legal solutions regarding the liability of doctors and dentists practicing their profession in Poland;
- development of a concept of legal solutions regarding the liability of physicians and dentists practicing their profession in Poland, aimed at strengthening patient safety when providing health services and reducing the occurrence of adverse events when providing health services, including medical errors;
- developing other actions necessary to improve the safety of patients, doctors and dentists.
The first meeting of the Team should be convened no later than one month after the entry into force of the order (i.e. from 3 June).
There is no specified time frame for completing the work.
